Graduate Research Forum

The Graduate Research Forum is the major forum for dissemination of key policy, new processes and guidelines, and current Government issues impacting the sector to Postgraduate Coordinators, research administrators and research student service providers in the University.

The Forum was established in August 2005 and serves as the major forum for the Dean of Graduate Research to consult with, and obtain feedback from, Postgraduate Coordinators. One forum each semester is directed specifically to Postgraduate Coordinators, as the key group of staff who are most directly involved with higher degree research students and as the group who are best placed to advise of issues of concern within Schools and Faculties, and to provide direct feedback to the Graduate Research School on issues where assistance is required.

The Graduate Research Forum also provides an independent, diverse group that can provide feedback on proposed changes, guidelines and processes that will continue to be introduced and improved by the Graduate Research School in order to enhance research training and improve graduate student satisfaction.

This forum is aimed at Higher Degree Research Supervisors who would like to better understand how to identify and attract fully funded high quality international research students to their research groups.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Recruitment
  • Scholarships available for tuition fees and stipends
  • UNSW Scholarships – how to identify if an applicant is competitive for an EIPRS/UIPA
  • Other scholarship opportunities
  • Conditions related to the use of ARC, NH&MRC and Australian Government funds for international HDR students
  • Charging of tuition fees and fee remission scholarships
  • Joint or double-badged degrees with overseas Universities
  • International Research Student Administration (enrolment, visa processing, visa conditions, student health cover etc)
