UNSW Local Research Scholarships

Applications are now open for Semester 1 2009 and close on 31 October 2008

Only one application is required for consideration for all scholarships as appropriate.

UNSW offers the following scholarships to local students of exceptional research potential to undertake a higher degree by research at UNSW. Students will be considered for all of these scholarships to undertake either a PhD or a Masters by Research degree, as appropriate.


1. UNSW Research Excellence Awards $30,000 - $35,000
 
These scholarships are available to students of outstanding research potential. Applications are invited from University Medallists and Honours candidates who are ranked first in their Honours year, from any Australian or New Zealand University, in any discipline. 
 
The scholarship comprises an annual stipend of approx $30,000 (UPA stipend valued at $20,007 plus $10,000) plus relocation expenses for students outside the Sydney area to a maximum of $5,000. An additional $5,000 top-up scholarship may be available to applicants in specific research areas.
 
2. UNSW Petre Foundation Scholarship $35,000
 
The Scholarship will be awarded to a UNSW University Medallist who demonstrates aspirations to give back to society surrounding but not limited to, such as areas as poverty and hunger, youth at risk, child welfare, a sustainable environment, issues in developing countries, public health. The scholarship comprises an annual stipend of $35,000.
 
3. Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) / University Postgraduate Awards (UPA) plus a Faculty top-up scholarship $25 - $30,000
 
Scholarships are awarded to the top ranked applicants in many Faculties.
 
The scholarship comprises an annual stipend of approx $25,000 - $30,000 (APA/UPA stipend valued at $20,007 plus $5,000 - $10,000). The value of the top-up scholarship is Faculty specific and may vary depending on the number of applications received.
 
4. Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) / University Postgraduate Awards (UPA)
 
The scholarship comprises an annual stipend of $20,007. 
 
 
5. Faculty Postgraduate Awards
 
Recipients of the following award will be selected from applications received where appropriate. There is no need to submit a separate application.
 
  • University College Postgraduate Research Scholarships   - approx $21,000* (only available at the UNSW@ADFA campus)
  • Faculty of Engineering Research Scholarships - approx $20,000*
