Tenure

The duration of the scholarship will be reduced by any periods of study undertaken:

  • towards the degree prior to the commencement of the scholarship; and
  • during suspension of the scholarship.
The University may grant PhD scholarship holders an extension of a maximum of 6 months if their research is adversely affected by circumstances beyond their control and provided the candidate is making satisfactory progress. No extensions are possible for Masters by Research Students or Master of Philosophy Students.

Recipients wishing to request an extension should apply in writing to the Graduate Research School, including a supervisor's supporting statement, no later than 2 months (and no earlier than 4 months) prior to the expiry of the scholarship.

Please Note: scholarship holders who gain an extension to the scholarship who also hold additional forms of allowance (such as a Faculty living allowance) will not automatically be eligible to receive an extension of the additional allowance. Scholarship holders should check with the appropriate Faculty/School office regarding the possibility of extensions for these scholarships.
