Eligibility

Full details of all the eligibility requirements can be found in the S1 2010 Application Guidelines. All students must read these Guidelines prior to lodging an application.

Applications are open to citizens of all overseas countries (excluding applicants with Australian or New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent resident status), who are proposing to undertake full-time study for a higher research degree at UNSW.

To be eligible for a UNSW International Research Scholarship, a student must:

  • be an international student; and
  • meet international student visa requirements as specified by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), including the requirement to purchase and maintain a standard Overseas Student Health Cover policy approved by the Commonwealth Government Department of Health and Ageing.
Please note: Tuition Fee Remission Scholarships are only available to students who are sponsored by their home country with a living allowance/stipend of minimum value $10,000 per annum and who include the letter of offer from their home country with the application.

Applicants who are offered a scholarship commencing in Semester 1 2010 will be expected to commence study at the University by no later than 1 March 2010. The UNSW International Research Scholarships are highly competitive scholarships and cannot under any circumstances be deferred.

Students should be aware that visa application and processing times can vary and are dependant on their country assessment level (AL). For example: students applying from AL3, AL4 & AL5 countries should allow extra time for a pre-visa assessment and student visa applications. For further visa information, please refer to the Department of Immigration & Citizenship (DIAC) website.

If you are unable to commence before the designated commencement date you will not be able to take up the scholarship.

You will NOT be eligible for the scholarships if you:

  • Are a candidate for PhD (or Masters by Research applicants converting to PhD) and you will have undertaken 2 semesters of full-time equivalent research higher degree candidature prior to the semester for which the scholarship is available.
  • Are a candidate for Masters by Research (or PhD applicants converting to Masters by Research) and you have undertaken 1 semester of full-time equivalent research higher degree candidature prior to the semester for which the scholarship is available.
