Clover Moore with international students
A Welcome Reception for all new postgraduate research students was held at the Sydney Town Hall on Wednesday, 22 March.

City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP addressed the students and delegates from a number of Universities and welcomed the students to Australia. Professor John Ingleson, UNSW's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Development) also welcomed the postgraduate research students and wished them luck with their studies.

Helen Byakwaga, a UNSW research student from the School of Public Health and Community Medicine and UNSW International Student Services student ambassador, also spoke at the event. Helen will spend much of her research working from the National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research, one of UNSW affiliated centres. She stated that the centre is regarded as one of the pioneering and leading centres in clinical research in the field of HIV/AIDS, and it was for this reason that she chose to study at UNSW.

The Welcome Reception, which was coordinated at UNSW by International Student Services, was well attended by commencing postgraduate research students from the University of New South Wales.
